The Very Worst Missionary
Today, my awesome friend, Di, recommended me this blog called “The Very Worst Missionary.” She told me that she read through the entire archive (months and months worth) in one sitting. And I’m on my way to doing the same thing. I’m pretty sure it’s the only place on the entire world wide web where you can read about encouraging scripture and PMS cravings in the same place. The author, Jamie, is a missionary to Costa Rica who uses very, ehm, colorful langage to give very, ehm, honest accounts of daily life in a new country.
It’s so easy and common for missionaries to give off the holier-than-thou, I’m-a-missionary-and-you-aren’t-so-I-know-all-the-right-things-to-say-and-do appearance. What people really don’t is that, we like to eat out and go to the mall, too (although this is probably five times less likely to happen considering our bank accounts). We take pride in our ridiculous international sun tans. We paint our nails. We cry at romantic comedies. We make mistakes. We’re real people. Props to Jamie for admitting that missionaries aren’t perfect.
Now, I’m going to go finishing reading about air-freshener Jesus.
