Hillside Car Karma
My roommate and I often joke around about how missionaries have some sort of curse when it comes to cars. I’ve come to realize that it’s not a joke. It’s real. Let me present the evidence.
April 2nd. I came home to visit my family for Easter and found my car completely immobile. My options were: 1.) junk it and get paid $250 or 2.) fix it and sell it for a little more. So, I fixed it. During that same week, two other members of our missions team had car troubles. One left without a car. The other left to pay for the car to break down. Twice. Also, the people on our team get more parking tickets than Pat Mahoney gets arrested.
Today at appoximately 5:58pm, a man realized he was about to pass the restaurant he wanted to eat at, so he slammed on his brakes, the girl behind him slammed on hers, and as for me, well, it was raining. And my tires don’t do well in sunshine. I couldn’t stop. The car is totalled and I have to junk it (one of the two original options), but this time I’m left to pay for towing, a ticket given to me by the nice policeman, and overnight service fees. Not enough proof for you?
A tweet from the Jamie the Very Worst Missionary yesterday:
@JamieTheVWM: Last night our car overheated and this a.m. the battery was dead - We’re gonna drive to Nicaragua, now. Soooooo, wish us luck or something.
One hour later….
@JamieTheVWM: Supposed to leave 1 hour ago. Car is not cooperating. Please pray.
Looking on the bright side…I watched “Amelie” on Netflix last night and loved it so much that I bought it on dvd today so that I can watch it everyday for the rest of my life.
