Today I rode my bike to LEC (where I’m being tutored in Khmer). It’s a pretty far ride across a bunch of busy streets, so my “sister and brothers” rode there with me for the first time in case I got lost. Actually, I bribed them with the reward of a cold soda (they call it “pop” here) on the way. Using the map in my brain, I was able to get there without their help. When we went to stop at “Jars of Clay” (where all the missionaries hang out), we realized the shop was closed so we went across the street to a more Khmer style coffee house. Our sodas were surpisingly and quite humorously fancy. Afterward I went back to Orussey with John and Dale and we talked with some Chinese guys and they shared their fried banana with us. I practiced my virtually non-existent Khmer with one of the Chinese guys who knew a little English. We made some friends. I’ve been riding bikes/motos almost every day since I’ve been here, so I realized it was time to buy a helmet. I had been borrowing the boys’, which doesn’t really work out for anyone. So while we were at Orussey, I shopped around for a helmet that I could use for bicycle riding, moto riding, and for scooter riding when I get back to the states. Riding helmets in the states range from 80-200 dollars. The one I got here cost $10. Love it.
